About the piece
La traviata premiered at La Fenice in Venice in 1853. In the first act, during a party, Alfredo sings this toast and Violetta answers: a declaration of love disguised as a drinking song.
This is a piano reduction of the whole scene, with the vocal melody in the right hand and the orchestral accompaniment in the left.
How to practise it
- Learn the chorus melody first: it is the one everybody knows.
- The left hand has a waltz rhythm in 3/8: light and steady.
- Think of the melody as a voice: breathe at the end of each phrase.
- The scene is long: split it into parts and learn one at a time.

Frequently asked questions
Is it the complete version?

What level do I need?
Intermediate, because of its length and some accompaniment passages.
